Question 1

What should an OEM check before choosing a UL-listed enclosure supplier?

Accepted Answer

Verify the supplier's certifications instead of taking their word for it: ask for their UL file number and confirm the standard fits your product (UL 508A for industrial control panels, UL 50 and UL 50E for enclosures). Then ask who reviews your design, how the enclosure integrates with your equipment, what documentation ships with each order, and whether they can scale from prototype to production. Quantum Manufacturing holds UL 508A, UL 50, and UL 50E shop certifications.

Question 2

What is the difference between UL Listed and UL Recognized?

Accepted Answer

UL Listed means a complete product has been evaluated for its intended use as a stand-alone item. UL Recognized applies to components built to go inside a larger product, and it carries conditions that only hold in that setting. Which one you need depends on your end product, so confirm with your certification body before you specify the enclosure.

Question 3

Can one metal fabricator handle both fabrication and finished assembly for an OEM?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Quantum Manufacturing does laser cutting (including tube), turret punching, press-brake forming, manual and robotic welding, multi-stage wash and powder coat, mechanical assembly, and panel wiring and electrical assembly in one 130,000 sq ft facility in Manchester, TN. One team is accountable from raw material to finished assembly, so you manage one vendor instead of several.

Question 4

How do OEMs source custom fabricated metal parts for their own equipment?

Accepted Answer

A typical path is to send drawings or a project description to a fabricator and request a quote. The better path brings the fabricator in early, because an engineering review before the build catches cost and manufacturability problems on paper instead of on the floor. Send Quantum Manufacturing your prints or a project description, and our engineering team supports you with design-for-manufacturability input from quote through delivery.

Question 5

Do you build prototypes, or only production runs?

Accepted Answer

Both. Quantum Manufacturing supports OEM programs from prototype through production, so the shop that helps you validate a design is the same one that builds it at volume. Early prototypes also give our engineers a chance to flag design-for-manufacturability changes before the design is released to production.

Question 6

Do you do panel wiring and electrical assembly, or only the enclosure?

Accepted Answer

Both. Beyond the enclosure itself, we do panel wiring and electrical assembly in-house under our UL 508A shop certification, alongside mechanical assembly and quality inspection. Your enclosure can arrive fabricated, finished, wired, and checked, rather than as a bare box you complete somewhere else.

Question 7

What documentation comes with an OEM order?

Accepted Answer

Documentation needs vary by program, so we handle them case by case. Tell us what your quality or compliance team requires when you request a quote, and we will confirm what is available. Quantum Manufacturing operates under an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality system.

Question 8

What do you need from an OEM to quote a project?

Accepted Answer

Send drawings or a project description; the more complete the specs, the faster we can quote. It also helps to include expected quantities, finish requirements, and any certification your product must meet. If you do not have finished prints yet, our engineering team will work through the requirements with you.

Question 9

What should a facility operator look for in a supplier for an enclosure or power distribution retrofit or expansion?

Accepted Answer

Look for a supplier that can match your existing equipment (mounting, footprint, cutouts, cable entry), work from what is installed when drawings are missing, and build to the same UL standard as the unit it replaces or sits beside. Add an engineering review before the build and one team responsible from fabrication through assembly. Quantum Manufacturing offers all of this from its Manchester, TN facility.

Question 10

Can you build a replacement enclosure to fit existing equipment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We build replacement enclosures sized and configured to your existing mounting, footprint, and cutouts, so the new unit fits what is already in place instead of forcing changes around it. Send your drawings or details on the unit being replaced, and our engineering team will review the fit with you before the build.

Question 11

What if we don't have drawings for the equipment we're replacing?

Accepted Answer

You can still request a quote. Quantum Manufacturing can work from a sample, field measurements, or the existing equipment itself, and our engineering team works through the requirements with you before the build. Send what you have, and we will tell you what else we need to get the fit right.

Question 12

Can a replacement enclosure be built to the same UL standard as the one it replaces?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when the original was built to a standard we are certified for: UL 508A, UL 50, or UL 50E. Tell us the standard or markings on the existing unit when you request a quote, and confirm your requirements with your inspector or authority having jurisdiction. We build under our UL shop certifications and an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality system.

Question 13

Do you support facility expansions as well as one-for-one replacements?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Beyond direct replacements, we build additional enclosures, junction boxes, and power distribution equipment for facility expansions, sized to work alongside what you already have on site. For programs with multiple units, we support work from prototype through production. Send your drawings or a project description to start.
