Who is Quantum Manufacturing?
Most sourcing problems come down to the same few things: a lead time that slipped, a shop that can cut but can't weld or coat, or a supplier whose paperwork doesn't hold up when the inspector shows up. Quantum Manufacturing exists to take those variables off your plate. We're a full-service metal fabricator in Manchester, Tennessee, and we handle laser cutting, forming, welding, powder coating and assembly under one roof — including UL-listed enclosures and power distribution equipment built to spec.
This is the first post on our blog, so it makes sense to start with who we are, what we build and why buyers call us.
What Quantum Manufacturing Does
We've been fabricating metal since 1965. Today we run a 130,000 sq. ft. facility with 50+ employees and the equipment to take a job from flat sheet to finished, labeled assembly without handing it off to three outside vendors.
In-house capabilities include:
Laser cutting, including large-format and tube laser work
Forming on press brakes for sheet and plate
Robotic and cobot welding, plus manual welding where the part calls for it
Powder coating for finish and corrosion protection
Assembly, including wired and component-level builds
Keeping all of that in one building matters for two reasons. First, scheduling: we're not waiting on a coater across the state to free up a line. Second, quality: when a weld distorts a panel or a hole location fights an enclosure door, we catch it in-house instead of discovering it after the parts ship.
Typical products include UL-listed enclosures, junction boxes, power distribution equipment, power cabinets and custom fabrication built to customer prints.
Certifications and What They Mean for You
Quantum Manufacturing is certified to ISO 9001:2015, and our shop holds UL 508A, UL 50 and UL 50E certifications.
Here's the practical read on that:
ISO 9001:2015 means our quality system is documented, audited and repeatable — inspection records, corrective action, traceability and revision control are part of the job, not an afterthought.
UL 508A covers industrial control panels, so we can build and label panels in-house rather than sending them out for third-party listing.
UL 50 and UL 50E cover enclosures and their environmental ratings, which is what lets us produce enclosures that meet the type rating your spec calls out.
For a buyer, that combination usually means fewer suppliers in the chain and less risk that a listing or label becomes the thing holding up a shipment.
To be clear about scope: we do not hold IATF 16949 or AS9100. If your program requires either of those registrations, we'll tell you up front.
The Industries We Serve
Different customers come to us for different reasons, and the work reflects that.
Oil and gas and power generation. Heavy, spec-driven enclosure and cabinet work where environmental rating and documentation matter. See our oil and gas and power generation work.
Data centers. Power distribution equipment, cabinets and enclosures for facilities where uptime is the whole point and build schedules are compressed. More on our data center capabilities.
Industrial and OEM. Repeat production parts, weldments and assemblies for equipment builders who need a consistent part, run after run. Details on our industrial and OEM fabrication page.
Subcontract and overflow work for other fabricators. When another shop is capacity-constrained or doesn't have a tube laser, a large-format table or a UL 508A panel shop, we run the work for them. If that's your situation, start with partner with us.
We also maintain capability pages for automotive and aerospace. Our aerospace work is non-flight-critical, and again — we are not AS9100 or IATF 16949 registered.
History and Leadership
The company dates to 1965, which means most of what we do now was built on decades of job-shop experience: understanding how material behaves, how to hold tolerance on a weldment, and how to schedule a floor so a hot job doesn’t blow up five other orders.
We were founded as MCA Fabrication, a metal sign manufacturer, and we’ve adapted and changed over the years while operating in Manchester, Tennessee the whole time. The plant has grown to its current 130,000 sq. ft. through multiple equipment expansions. UL 508A, UL 50 and UL 50E certifications were added in the last five years, which brought panel listing and enclosure type ratings in-house instead of out to a third party.
Jamie Smith, CEO. Jamie has been with QMFG for almost five years, after more than 20 years in the industry. He started in automotive, so he knows production environments and knows this space well. He leads the company and sets its direction, and he stays involved in the decisions that shape how we quote and deliver. He also weighs in on larger quotes, so bigger programs get a decision from the top, not a handoff.
Our team is in Manchester, Tennessee, and we're always talking to good fabricators, welders and operators. If that's you, take a look at careers. To learn more about the company overall, visit our about page.
How to Work With Us
Most new relationships start one of three ways:
Send a print and a quantity. We'll quote the part as drawn and flag anything in the design that will add cost or risk.
Send a problem. If you have an enclosure that keeps failing in the field or a panel that's always late, bring the issue and we'll look at how it's built.
Send overflow. If you're a fabricator who's booked solid, we can run the work that doesn't fit your schedule.
Either way, the first step is a conversation about the spec, the volume and the date you need parts.
